Those of you up to date on all the social media news might have already heard that Apple launched its own “social media thing” that runs while your on iTunes this week. To sum it up, it is essentially a way for users to know what artists their friends are listening to and help them find out about new artists they may like. It does this by having an activity stream similar to facebook and twitter with status updates of artists and songs.

Although in its infancy, Ping is a great idea for artists with a large following already. When typing in your favorite genre of music, generally the larger artists in the category come up and are recommended for you to listen to and follow. Ping would be great if created for the smaller artists in mind, but it is not very friendly to the smaller artists with little publicity.

Right now, I’m not very impressed with Ping and it doesn’t really seem like something I’d want to use, but it is only a week old. Apple will work out the kinks and make it a better product at some point. Knowing how good or bad this could potentially be is still up in the air. Only time will tell if it will go the way of facebook and explode in popularity or the way of myspace and in the words of one Mike Tyson “fade into oblivion”. Try it out and decide for yourself.

Have you tried out Ping? What do you think, leave a comment.

It seems that everyone has claimed the title of being a social media expert in the year 2010. Although there is no official social media degree one can obtain many are spending top dollar for someone to tell them how to do social media. People across the U.S. are attending social media boot camps, seminars and workshops hoping to win big. Although there are some general guidelines one should follow when trying to gain a presence on social media it is important to add your own personality and flavor to each of your accounts and not just do social media the way “The Guy” told you to. That is not to say having your social media handled by a professional couldn’t prove beneficial but it is important you create something that represents your true self. So many people have jumped on the bandwagon of revealing hidden social media tips and it is my opinion some of these tips are proving to be detrimental in gaining a strong following. PTS Social Media with a tag line of We Do It For You would like to share their insight on the Top 10 Things That Will Get You Defriended on Facebook. So even if you have more than a 1000 friends and your social media expert said it was ok please take our advice and let us do it for you.

1) Pick an appropriate Facebook picture. There is nothing more unappetizing then letting someone into your Facebook community who looks like a mass murderer.

2) Please do not post information on a daily basis regarding Internet Marketing. There is nothing more invasive then being invited to webinars, or how to make things “go viral”, or about how social networking is not just “some fad.” Once in a while but every day is a NO NO.

3) Making an account for your baby and dog is one thing but when that baby starts posting information on your wall it is fair to say the line has been crossed.

4) It is okay to comment on someone’s Facebook if you feel deeply compelled by what they wrote. It is not okay to become a stranger’s biggest fan. Do not repeatedly post on someone’s Facebook wall that you do not know.

5) It is a big problem when people release photo shoots of themselves looking at their computer with slightly contorted model face. This can result in automatic defriend.

6) Do not max out the number of friends you have on Facebook. When I befriend someone and I can’t be their friend but I can be their fan it feels like I won a consolation prize.

7) Please do not befriend me if you don’t have a Facebook profile picture of an actual human. How do I know who you are if I am forced to look at some cryptic images.

(8) It is strange when someone you barely know is befriending your family members and school friends from another state. It feels like a stalker trying to invade all areas of your life.

9) Do not post your political opinions on Facebook. Sure it’s your page but by ranting your beliefs could drive some unexpected people away.

10) Do not what ever you do befriend someone again after they defriended you even if you think it was a mistake.

PTS Social Media feels inclined to educate you on all things relating to social media so if you have ever defriended someone please post your story below.

Pictures or discussions of new purchases or vacations are fun, but they might color the court’s view of your finances and affect your settlement.

Letting It All Hang Out

If you’re in a custody battle, your ex’s lawyers would love to present you as the nonnurturing type. Delete all the crazy party photos.

Getting Tagged

It’s not just your page you have to worry about. Make sure your friends’ photos of you can’t be used against you either.

Venting

Don’t talk smack about the lawyers, the judge and especially your spouse — on your page or anybody else’s. (You think your kids never use a computer?)

Cutting Off Everyone

Don’t “defriend” in-laws or your ex’s friends right away. People need time to adjust. Unless it’s really high-conflict. Then go for it.

The ways of marketing our forever changing. What worked a year ago may not work today. The frontier of getting your message out to the right demographic of people requires more than just spending money. It requires a strategy, a new channel for your message, and most importantly a way to track results. Social media when used under the precision of a professional is a great and effective way to get your message across and brand your business. After all it took radio 38 years to reach 50 million users. It took TV 13 years to reach 50 million users and it took Facebook only 9 months to add more than a 100 million users. Social media allows you as a business owner to educate your audience and specifically tailor and target your message to each individualized person who is on the web. Social media marketing has the ability to allow you to reach more than 500 million users on Facebook, a wide range of CEO’s on LinkedIn and even celebrities on Twitter. The benefits of using social media marketing allows a business owner like yourself to drive thousands of targeted users to your Facebook Fan Page, be published on hundreds of blogs and evenbe tweeted about by your competition. Whether it’s using a blog to showcase your company’s achievements, or using Twitter for fast, personal customer service, Social Media Marketing has a proven track record in getting you the results you are looking for. Call me crazy but the old ways of marketing seem to be barely keeping a float. For starters social media marketing is 1/5 the cost of print advertising. Although your message is published in a reliable publication when using print that same content can also now be found online minus the advertisements. Why spend money on radio after all with new satellite radio people can now opt out of those intrusive advertisements. Then there is good old fashioned TV but with digital recorders fast forwarding through commercials have almost become second nature. Social media marketing is unique because our online campaigns transcend the web and enter the offline world in order to generate leads and sales. So what are you waiting for call PTS Social Media today! 480-656-7235
