Children under the age of 13 are protected by certain regulations that state online services and websites collecting personal information from users must receive consent from the user’s parents. The rule, under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA), states these websites must have verifiable consent to collect, use, and disclose any personal information about the under aged user.

Now, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is preparing to modernize these regulations with an updated definition of “personal information.” These changes will include the child’s location, and whether or not the system will be tracking cookies, which allows the programs to monitor the user’s online behavior.

The FTC will also propose ways online services will obtain parental consent. Their measures range from a variety of stipulations that will have a large impact on several online services and websites.

The FTC is currently taking comments from Internet users on what they think about these new changes. If you wish to file a comment with the FTC, they must be received no later than November 28, 2011.

PTS Multimedia would like to know what you think! Tell us in the comments how you would change the privacy policies for children.

The world is full of amazing inventions we find ourselves using daily. Sometimes more than once a day! These things have become essential to our jobs, social affairs, and lives in general.

Cell phones, iPods, debit cards, cars, the Internet, television – all inventions that have consumed our lives.

Cell phones, debit cards, and the Internet are 3 items we use the most. Have you ever tried living without them? Would you be able to do it? The fact is we use these items so often we wouldn’t know what to do if we didn’t have them at our disposal 24/7.

In the case of cell phones, do you even know how much you use it? Luckily we don’t have to. Cell phone companies keep track for us and send us a bill at the end of the month reminding us how much we owe. Every time it rings, we scramble to pick it up. We can’t miss any important phone calls or text messages! Cell phones have become a part of us.

Debit cards are one of the best inventions. They make it easy to pay for things. All it takes is one quick swipe of that card and your transaction is complete. As opposed to credit cards, the money is automatically taken out of your checking account so you can keep track of your money easier. Do you have cash in your wallet? Not many people carry cash around anymore. It’s mostly plastic.

The Internet has connected us to everything we can imagine! Information on anything and everything is just a search away. From Google to email to social networking sites, everyone is online in some way. Businesses have found a new grounding via the Internet. They can expand to a larger clientele and reap the awards of physically staying local. Think of how many times you log on to the web, whether it’s through a computer, your cell phone, or some other device. We bet it’s at least 3 times!

Can you live without these inventions? Well, maybe for a little while, but luckily we don’t have to! The power of technology is strong and plentiful. It’s not going anywhere but up.

1. Samsung Galaxy 7.7 Tablet

With a battery that lasts up to 10 hours of video playback, this tablet is thinner and lighter than the previous ones and provides clear and beautiful pictures.

2. Samsung Note with ‘S Pen’

It has one of the largest screen sizes available for smartphones that provides better viewings of web pages, apps, etc. The S Pen can be used to write handwritten notes for text messages, email, and instant messaging.

3. LG Smartscan Mouse

The built in scanner allows one easy move over an item to scan it. The file is then converted into the type of document you want.

4. Sony Personal 3D Viewer

Who wants a plain black iPhone when they can have one that’s solid gold?

British jewelry designer Stuart Hughes has taken technology and given it a touch of class. Hughes took the simple iPhone and designed the casing with 271 grams of 22 carets of solid gold. And what is gold without diamonds?

The front part around the screen is bedazzled with 136 flawless diamonds, totaling 68 carets. The Apple logo is made with 53 diamonds amounting exactly one caret. The navigation key is even made with a very rare 7.1 carets diamond. It’s for the person who has it all!

How much does something like this cost? A whopping $3.2 million!

Technology has definitely come a long way!

So, is the gold iPhone on your Christmas list? Tell us what you think about this unique phone.

Social Media outlets have allowed businesses to advertise their products and services in new ways. Facebook ads are popular and cost-effective ways to promote whatever one wants. When used properly, companies can see positive results from using these applications. Here are 3 tips to keep in mind so your Facebook ads will be successful. 1. Plan Ahead

It’s easy to decide you want to advertise on Facebook, but you need to know what you’re hoping your ad will achieve. Facebook offers several different options to choose from. You can target the right audience through fans and friends who “like” your ad.

2. Be Creative

Anyone can read words on a plain background. How boring is that? Be creative with your ad. Use fancy text and bright images that draw attention to your ad. Highlight any special offerings or special features you provide.

3. Keep Updated

Facebook ads will bring traffic to your page, but if your last post was months ago, people are going to think your ad isn’t up to date. Your ads are only as good as the information on your Wall. Be sure to post often to keep your ads legit.

Don’t drink and drive!

It’s a saying we hear quite often and it’s a rule that should be followed.

Don’t drink and text!

Another saying that has been told to countless of friends in order to avoid awkward consequences from a night of partying.

Don’t drink and Facebook!

You might not have heard this one, but it’s being said more and more as people continue to put themselves online.

When people are intoxicated, they have a tendency not to think straight. Mix in anger and you have a problem. You might have sent an angry Facebook message to a friend or tweeted about how you hate your boss or job. Maybe you uploaded a less than flattering picture or video to YouTube.

Thanks to the security company, Webroot, you can be saved from these mishaps. The Social Media Sobriety Test is a plugin you can install and customize to your preferences. You’re able to set the time in which you shouldn’t be able to post/upload and if you try, you’ll be given a test to check your level of sobriety.

So if you’re a little tipsy and you feel like posting something that might be bad, this plugin is just for you. Or you can just use a little common sense.

How much do you love your pet? Do you consider him or her part of the family? You most likely dote on your pet and take time out of your day to shower him or her with love and attention. You wouldn’t be the first and you won’t be the last.

People love their pets and that’s great. If you check your friend’s Facebook photos, you’ll probably find at least one picture of them with their pet. But does your dog or cat have a Facebook profile of his or her own? Does your bird have a Twitter account? Do you have a YouTube page dedicated to your fish?

If that sounds odd, that’s okay, but according to a study, at least 1 in 10 pets has a social media profile.

Since the media craze following the escaped Cobra from the Bronx Zoo (a Twitter account was created fictitiously detailing the snakes whereabouts) many pet owners have honored their pets on social media networks.

Typing on behalf of their furry pals, owners post about various topics, including food, activities, and whether they prefer belly rubs to getting scratched behind the ears.

So, is there a lovable pet on your Friend’s List or are you following one on Twitter?

We guess everyone wants to feel connected, no matter who or what the status update is about!

Are you plagued by unwanted emails, Facebook and Twitter posts from companies you really don’t want to hear from anymore? You’re not alone! According to research, 91% of people admitted to opting out of unwanted messages.

Why? Most people said they couldn’t stand checking their email and finding 20 useless messages out of 22 total. Others said they were tired of repetitive posts. And sometimes the content isn’t even relevant from the start, which is a waste of yours and the company’s time.

When you aren’t interested in what the messages have to say, what do you do? Do you click that little link at the bottom of the email that says unsubscribe? What about deleting them or hitting the spam button? You could just ignore them, but then next thing you know you have a full inbox of emails that mean nothing to you.

Will companies get the hint when fans start “unliking” them on Facebook or stop following them on Twitter? Maybe, but for now, keep in mind that Social Media is a skill that shouldn’t be abused.
